OUR HERD TALE

Herd Tales:  where herd members gather round to share insights from the past.

This time we bring you the story of Tipsy Nelly, created out of wise counsel from professors of gin and history.

An exceptionally smooth gin with deep nutty notes and rich cacao, Tipsy Nelly is truly worth trumpeting about. And the story behind it? That is really rather special too. So if you have a moment, let us pour you a drink...

AN EXTRAORDINARY GIN

AN ELEPHANTINE MYTH

Picture the scene – we stand in the Royal Geographical Society, enthralled, leafing reverently through the original diaries of the explorers who sought the source of the Nile. Led by the spirit and expertise of their guides, without whom none of their expeditions would have been possible, these adventurers made some astonishing findings.

The adventurers wrote passionately of the marula: an unusual citrus fruit with a nutty heart. Intrigued, we had to know more. That is when we stumbled across a tale even more delicious than the fruit: a story of greedy elephants gorging on fermented marula and teetering on, in the African sun. An idea took root. Well, it’s not everyday you find a tipsy elephant.

Actually, it turns out, it is not really any day. While elephants enjoy marula, the intoxicating effects are likely more of a myth. Yet the tale is still awfully good fun and one we couldn’t forget. So, we took Nelly’s lead and distilled that elephantine myth into an extraordinary London Dry gin.

DISCOVER

BATCH 1 – SEASONALLY EXCLUSIVE

With a short seasonality, marula presented us with some unique challenges, not least sourcing our key botanical from its home in the sub-Sahara. Undeterred, we landed upon a rather special solution, inspired by the seasonality and terroir of winemaking and the centuries old techniques of artisanal olive oil production.

The result?

An extraordinary, limited run batch distilled gin, reflecting the subtleties of the annual marula harvest and an innovative approach to distillation, produced exclusively for our herd members.

Inspired by our story and home of the marula, we are proud to support our charity partner, Elephants for Africa, with every bottle sold.

So why not join Tipsy Nelly’s herd and support the elephants too?
